Urwerk's timepieces are striking in their elegant, futuristic lines and challenge established notions of what constitutes a watch dial. Instead of the familiar hands, three cubes with Arabic numerals from 1 to 12 rotate on a central axis. Each cube, in turn, rotates around its own axis, while a 60-minute scale is located at the bottom of the dial. At the start of a new hour, the cube with the desired number on the front reaches the minute scale and moves along it, counting down the minutes. Additionally, a moon phase indicator and a day/night indicator are located at the bottom of the dial. Furthermore, this is the world's first watch to use compressed air energy instead of a spring.
